Deconstructing the PRINZ definition of Public Relations Public Relations in New Zealand is widely useful, practised and builds up an organisation’s relationships with its publics. PR in short, is essentially about communication and relationship building. PRINZ [Public Relations Institute of New Zealand] (2009) defines PR as â€Å"The deliberate, planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between an organisation and its publics.† This essay will deconstruct and critically examine this definition of public relations in relation to PR theories. These theories being Systems Theory, Relationship Management and Excellence Theory will be examined and applied to campaign examples. This will give a comprehensive understanding of the theory’s meanings as well as relationships with aspects of the PRINZ definition of PR. To understand PR theories however, the term publics must first be addressed. Gordon (2011) describes publics as potential or actual audiences connected to various messages. (Rawlins, 2006) furthers this statement by stating that publics â€Å"†¦can be employees, shareholders, political leaders, consumers, etc.† and â€Å"†¦are often segmented even further by demographics, geographics, or psychographics.† (p.133). Physical, mental, and emotional challenges are faced on daily bases of a human life, which relate to what soldiers face in war. It is difficult to explain and understand the reality of war when not experienced. For example, in Ernest Hemingways’ story â€Å"Soldiers Home,† civilians did not understand the internal damage the main character, Krebs, had to face when he came back home from war. After experiencing the worst event in his life, nothing was normal anymore. Whereas, in the speech â€Å"The Trump of Conscience† by Martin Luther King Jr., he demonstrates not only the terror, but the unequal treatment of the soldiers. King declares the inequality and corruption of the Vietnam War. Given the innovation that is present in Dyson’s business strategy, it is quite clear that their strategic capability is high, even though the risks can be high as well due to the experimental and ‘out there’ nature of their products which may be too daunting for normal consumers. 2. To what extent do you think any of the capabilities can be imitated by competitors? The primary niche that Dyson follows is superior design. As a result, it can be quite difficult to replicate the specific strategic capabilities. Their focus on innovation revolves around them being the only ones around to actually try to change the way the vacuum or other appliance is designed. The level of specialization is what attracts customers to them. In order to provide legitimate competition to Dyson, superior engineering designers would have to be hired, and a much greater focus on innovation would have to be attempted. Otherwise, Dyson’s dominance in the high-end, experimental house-ware market remains unchecked by competitors. Competitors are already trying to imitate their products with the USA Wind Tunnel vacuums and Mjele swivel-head vacuums. Yet the patents Dyson has placed on their product prevents other companies from outright stealing of their ideas. 3. Which of Dyson’s distinctive capabilities may become threshold capabilities over time? The existence of high-value specialties will likely become a threshold capability for Dyson as the time goes on. Threshold capabilities are what is required to remain in the market. Currently, what is allowing Dyson to maintain its high prices is the high quality of the design and engineering present in their products. Compared to other consumer-level appliances of this kind, Dyson stands out as a distinctive product from a marketing standpoint. It is an actual interview conducted with a mobile phone, in the research project: Excessive mobile phone bills, young people and the relevant corporate social responsibility of the telecommunications industry in Australia. Analyse the qualitative data and report on the five (5) main themes of opinions expressed by the interview subject. Remember the themes have to be mutually exclusive (no overlapping of content between different themes). Title of Theme Irresponsible behaviour concerning the use of mobiles: Summary Careless attitudes regarding proper use of mobiles are apparent among a lot of phone users especially the youngsters. There are times when obscure terms and conditions may create some problems, but mostly the problem lies with the incautious use of mobiles. The customers use their phones a lot and exceeding the terms mentioned in their plans. The probable reasons for this could be that they are out of the city, make calls and text without keeping in mind the limitations of the plans that they have signed up for, and end up spending much more money on the facilities that are available on their plan.
